ASTRON & Knauf, pioneers in Croatia

Knauf, today, is Europe’s second largest manufacturer of building materials such as plasterboards. In recent years, the company’s development in Eastern Europe has presented a major challenge; a challenge that has been met by the acquisition in Knin, Croatia, of a gypsum quarry and the setting up of a modern plasterboards manufacturing plant.

Highly satisfied with a previous building built in Poland, Knauf once again called on ASTRON’s services to construct the 7.500 m² production and storage facility. ASTRON’s experience in very big industrial steel buildings, its know-how in local construction standards, its financial stability, as well as its production capacity, were decisive factors. The Knauf group opted for a variable height building, including several levels of mezzanines, to accommodate the specific needs of its industrial processes, such as the siting of machinery and the flow of materials. An ASTRON roof system was built over an existing building to match the appearance of the PR Roof / PA walls selected for the new facility. The building was erected by a Croatian team, trained on job site by ASTRON specialists, to the complete satisfaction of the client. Knauf now joins ASTRON’s "key accounts" of companies pursuing expansion and development strategies in the new markets of Eastern Europe.
